Owing to benefits, such as low- or non-toxicity, low sensitivity to atmospheric oxygen or water, and ease of manipulation, organocatalysts enjoy growing use in the research circle. As a key player in the chemical industry, Alfa Chemistry Catalysts recently announced that oxidation organocatalysts had been added to its versatile offering of organocatalysts.

Organocatalysts are small organic molecules that can catalyze reactions in the absence of metals or metal ions. Over the last decade, a number of different organocatalysts have been developed and used in many synthetically critical and challenging reactions, including asymmetric organocatalysts, condensation organocatalysts, porphyrin catalysts, and oxidation organocatalysts.

“A chemical capable of catalyzing the oxidation reaction is known as the oxidation organocatalysts. In order to synthesize such catalysts, a string of methods are utilized, including traditional methods like mechanical mixing, precipitation, spray evaporation, and hot melt method as well as relatively new methods like chemical bonding and fiberization,” said one of the senior scientists from Alfa Chemistry Catalysts.

Oxidation Organocatalysts Application Scenarios:

  • Free radical oxidation
  • Molecular oxygen oxidation
  • Alcohol oxidation
  • Oxidative desulfurization and denitrification

In general, oxidation organocatalysts are used to catalyze chemical oxidation reactions and biological reactions. While chemical oxidation organocatalysts often include nitro, nitroso, peroxy acid, and complex oxidizing agents with inorganic oxides, biological oxidation organocatalysts are usually referred to as enzymes.

Oxidation organocatalysts provided by Alfa Chemistry Catalysts encompass:

2-Hydroxy-2-azaadamantane (CAS 1155843-79-0), 4-Acetamido-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-Oxyl Free Radical [Catalyst for Oxidation] (CAS 14691-89-5), 4-Acetamido-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-oxopiperidinium Tetrafluoroborate (CAS 219543-09-6), 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl free radical, 98% (CAS 2564-83-2), 4-Hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxyl benzoate free radical [Catalyst for Oxidation] (CAS 3225-26-1), 4-Methoxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxyl free radical [Catalyst for Oxidation] (CAS 95407-69-5), and Iodobenzene catalyst supported on magnetic iron oxide nanoparticle (0.6-0.8 mmol/g).

About Alfa Chemistry Catalysts

As always, Alfa Chemistry Catalysts aims to support researchers seeking a stable supply of highly-efficient and inexpensive catalysts. Currently, the company offers chiral catalysts, ligands, metal catalysts, non-metal catalysts, guard catalysts, nanocatalysts, phase transfer catalysts, and photocatalysts. Organocatalysis has attracted scientists’ attention for years ago. As for now, researchers are trying to develop more efficient organocatalysts with enhanced yield and selectivity. Meanwhile, efforts are made to screen organocatalysts in different reactions with unstopping input, and more organocatalyzed reactions are expected to replace metal-catalyzed reactions in various industrial fields.
